SEMAA has classes for students in grades 1-12.
Reistration is now open for High School Astrobiology Academic Year Program 2008-2009.
It's back to school - and back to SEMAA! This year's High School SEMAA program will be centered around topics in astrobiology, and we will be meeting on Saturdays starting in October. Our first meeting will be on October 4th, and we will be meeting on the following days (1st Saturday of the Month):
October 4th, 10am to 2pm (first 30 minutes will be registration & a parent meeting)
November 1st, 10am to 2pm
December 6th, 10am to 2pm
(No meeting in January)
February 7th, 10am to 2pm
March 7th, 10am to 2pm
April 4th or 11th, 9am to 12 noon - All grades attend SEMAA GRADUATION!
As with our other high school programs, we will have a snack break and a break for lunch during each session - students should bring a sack lunch each session (we have a microwave oven). By registering a high school student, it is understood that the student will be able to attend all sessions of the program. The program is open to any high school student, including those who participated in GRASP, FIRST, or the 2008 High School Camp.
We're incredibly excited about this year's academic year program - and we hope you are too! This year's program will focus on the theme of astrobiology. Experience is not required for this FREE SEMAA program, and we are looking for a diverse group of students with the desire to investigate this new, interdisciplinary field of science through hands-on activities! Students accepted to the program are expected to attend ALL sessions.
We require every student enrolled in the program have a parent, guardian, or family member present on the first day of classes to remain for orientation, debriefing, and important program information. Even if you have been a SEMAA parent for years, please come as our program is always evolving and changing with the needs of our families and sponsors!

More information about astrobiology:
Astrobiology is the scientific study of the origin, development, distribution, and future of life in the universe. The study of astrobiology brings together researchers from historically separate scientific fields such as microbiology, ecology, astronomy, geology, paleontology, and chemistry and encourages them to work together to answer some of the most fundamental questions science can pose: What is life? How did we
get here? Are we alone in the universe? How can we tell if we are?
(For more information about astrobiology, visit our astrobiology program website at www.astroclassroom.org).
Students in grades 9-12 can participate in our Engineers of Tomorrow High School Program which is not grade-specific. The academic school year program has 2 sessions that run 8 weeks long. The summer program is 1 week long. Dates and times vary depending on the amount of time needed to complete a project. for Programs consists of geoscience, robotics, astrobiology, and more. The dates and registration are announced to those who have registered students with us and are open to previous participants first. Openings are filled on a first come-first serve basis.
