Astrobiology in Secondary Classrooms

ASC is a collaborative project designed to bring science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to life by connecting the latest research at the NASA Astrobiology Institute (NAI) research sites to high school students. The program involves content specific scientists, teachers, university faculty, and curriculum developers from Minority Serving Institutions serving all three major minority communities: African American, Hispanic and Native American.

The broader impact will be achieved by exploring how scientists and educators from three different minority communities collaborate to improve STEM education for their students, by increasing our research knowledge on diversity in STEM education and use of scientific data by high school students. The goal of this project is to establish a successful curriculum for creating the scientists of tomorrow. The modules focus on powerful technical tools and current scientific data that are incorporated into interdisciplinary lessons. The GeoRobotic Analytical Sampling Project (GRASP) is developing activities that will be part of the ASC curriculum.
