100 Black Men/ 100 Kings of Middle Tennessee
In the summer of 2007 the TSU SEMAA program hosted the100 Black Men/100 Kings summer camp. The goal of the 100 Kings program is to provide positive role models for African American males. As part of their month-long camp the group of 26 high school students participated in two hours of science and engineering activities each week at the SEMAA Aerospace Education Lab. The activities were selected from the Astrobiology in Secondary Classroom curriculum and the GRASP program. The activities were led by the GRASP staff who were assisted by the TSU University Student Mentors selected by the 100 Black Men camp organizers. College Bound Summer Camp at Tennessee State University
The College Bound program, sponsored by the NASA Glenn Research Center in conjunction with the TSU Department of Engineering brought 32 high school students (primarily African-American and Hispanic-American) from the Cleveland, OH area to visit Tennessee State University in the summer of 2007. These visiting students learned about the college experience from an engineering point of view. As a part of this camp, these students participated in approximately 6 hours of activities selected from the Astrobiology in Secondary Classroom curriculum and the GRASP program. The activities were led by the GRASP staff who were assisted by the TSU University Student Mentors for the College Bound program.
College Bound was a two-week summer academic workshop held at Tennessee State University in 2007 designed to introduce minority and female students to the profession of environmental engineering. The summer program is designed for high school graduates who have applied, been accepted into and will attend the College of Engineering, Technology and Computer Science at Tennessee State University.
